The school-wide SLOs inform planning and programming for the West Hills Library program.

GUHSD LIBRARY MISSION & VISION
Each fall, freshman English classes come to the library for an orientation period. I explain how I feel like the luckiest teacher on campus, because as a teacher librarian, every student is my student for all four years on campus. While the library may not show up on their official class schedule, it is a classroom where they are always welcome.
Also, while they may work on and find help with their classwork, the library also supports personal learning outside of the curriculum. Referencing the concept of 20% time, the library is where it's 20% time 100% of the time. |
GUHSD Library MissionOur mission is to empower students to be critical thinkers and problem solvers who use, produce, and share information and ideas to enrich learning, raise achievement, and pursue personal interests.
The GUHSD Library Vision is to:

GUHSD TEACHER LIBRARIANS
Ms. Sannwald was able to study while working since her educational program was completely online through San Jose State University's School of Information. Recently, she was even able to attend her program's convocation virtually, and when asked to submit a photo for her slide, a West Hills student kindly took the photo above for her to use.

Within the GUHSD, our high school library programs are led by dually-credentialed Teacher Librarians, who hold both a traditional single subject teaching credential and a teacher librarian services credential.
Since hired as the West Hills Teacher Librarian in Fall 2014, Suzanne Sannwald has been working toward completing coursework for the additional teacher librarian services credential, as well as a full Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) degree. Ms. Sannwald recently completed the program, and if you are curious about what a librarian studies these days, here are program learning outcomes and below is a sampling of some of her online projects: |
